The Paris Stock Exchange is expected to rise slightly on Monday, cautious in the face of the possibility of a still strong increase by the American central bank (Fed) in its key rates to fight against inflation.
The futures contract for the star CAC 40 index rose 0.37% one hour before the opening of the session. The previous week, the Paris market made gains, despite US economic indicators that suggested a further extension of the Fed’s more aggressive monetary tightening than expected.
„The attention of the markets is turned towards the publication Wednesday of the index of the prices to the American consumption”, underlines Stephen Innes, analyst of SPI Asset management. Investors hope, thanks to the inflation figures, to anticipate how much the American Central Bank (Fed) could continue to raise its key rates in September.
“It is very unlikely that the inflation figures expected this week will go in the direction of an easing of the aggressive monetary tightening of the Fed,” said Mr. Innes.
The Fed raised rates by three-quarters of a point at the end of July, a much bigger hike than the usual quarter-point.
